Herne Bay Men’s 1st XI, sponsored by the Shad Restaurant, recorded their first home and league win of the season, with a battling performance against Old Williamsonians.
Bay started slowly and conceded a few early short corners which ‘keeper Noding and the defensive unit dealt with well. A fine chipped pass led to Alex Kerly picking out veteran Gary Rouse to open the scoring. Bay soon added to this with an LBZ shot from skipper Dean Moore that rifled into the net. Kerly added a third, before Willy’s got one back through their Scot’s U’21 international, Hamish McMale.
Into the break at 3 – 1 up, Bay again started slowly and McMale, was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty stroke as Moore harshly chopped in the area.
Old Willy’s pressed hard, but Bay resolutely defended, with great work from Tom Greenhall, and sealed the game with five minutes to go with a second for Kerly.
This weekend, bay travel to Tunbridge Wells on saturday, and face Gore Court in the Kent Cup at Westlands School on Sunday at 2pm.
All supporters are welcome.

Herne Bay Junior Hockey Club has entered 2 U14 boys teams into the Kent League for the 2006-07 season.
Herne Bay A stormed to victory in there first match on Sunday 1st October 2006 at home to Folkestone Optimist Hockey Club, with James Bray scoring a HAT TRICK.
Adam Prebble opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Craig Dale crossed the ball unselfishly across the goal to Adam who was waiting on the far post. The second came 5 minutes later from Kenny McMahan with a well taken strike. Folkestone then made it 2-1. Just before half time James Bray opened his account with a fine individual effort weaving through the Folkestone defence into the D and slipping the ball past the keeper.

Kenny McMahan then made it 6-1, and with Herne Bay pushing forward to score more, Folkestone caught them on the break to make it 6-2, had it not been for some fine saves in the goal from Sam Maybourn Folkestone could have added some more.
